This past weekend was the Red Bull Soap Box Derby races and it brought people nationwide with their imagination, engineering and competitive nature to take part in the race. Teams put on their creative hats with inspiration from movies, TV shows, sports teams, food and even phone apps.
One of the stand-out teams was Angry Bird Droppings, a team whose concept was derived around a popular phone game “Angry Birds.” Now in the week before this race, this team went all out on social media…starting at 100 ‘likes’ in their group they ended the week with over 650 ‘likes’. With their campaigning throughout social media pages they were contacted by many press outlets for interviews and coverage prior to and on the day of the event. This kind of success is a pr agency’s dream!
Scores were based on speed, creativity and showmanship with a special prize for People’s Choice – and with the amount of campaigning that was done prior to race day, almost everyone knew of them.
In the end, Angry Bird Droppings ended up getting 2nd place, while the Team Lakers FanWagon took first, but definitely an overall success…and to top it off, they went through the whole run smoothly without any blunders!
