Before starting my first LA Public Relations internship, I was quite nervous to say the least. I had heard of the internship horror stories where interns were put to work on ridiculous tasks for unsettling amounts of time. But when I walked into the Konnect PR office, the nerves that previously occupied me, quickly vanished. I was greeted with a warm welcome and lots of smiles (not to mention the pink paint covering the walls was an instant mood lifter).
Previous to starting this internship I had expected my days to be filled with educational, but surface level work, including tasks such as making copies, coffee runs, filing, etc… But within the first hour I realized that would not be the case. After arriving and settling in, I was quickly learning how to navigate through pr agency databases, making calls to major magazines and observing the daily workings of a LA Public Relations office. I will tread lightly with this next comment, since this is my first pr agency internship, but I feel rather confident in stating that this internship and experience will rank above and beyond anything that I would have experienced elsewhere. Learning in the classroom is great and professors are always knowledgeable, but after only a short time at this internship I already feel that this real world experience is an extremely valuable resource that will aid me in my future public relations endeavors.
