I’m an award show addict and I love to see what’s going to happen to make news. With everything from Jim Carey’s green-screen suit to the premier of the trailer for the first installment of Breaking Dawn, this year’s MTV Movie Awards was bound to make headlines.
It’s no surprise that the cast of the Twilight saga took home a majority of the awards, but I was excited for the sneak peak of the newest edition to the saga. I also enjoyed when Alexys Nycole Sanchez from “Grown Ups” won the award for Best Line from a Movie: “I want to get chocolate wasted.”
The real issue here is how the MTV Movie Awards was perceived from a public relations standpoint.
In a recent article in the Los Angeles Times, a question was raised about whether the summer releases would actually get more attention because of the award show. From the standpoint of an intern working at a pr agency, any coverage that a film can get might help, but it’s all about how and where the film is promoted. Public Relations is all about communicating with an audience and making sure the messages are well perceived.
But for now this LA Public Relations intern will leave it up to the audience to see if the show enticed their interests. I look forward to seeing whether or not it was a box-office hit.
