Working at a pr agency in Los Angeles we are constantly up on our social media. Now just last week I heard about Google coming out with Google+, Facebook’s promising new rival – since we are all about one-upping each other, Facebook announced today that they will now have video chat.
I have not personally been able to test out Google+ yet but I have seen it and it has a similar layout to Facebook. Now since Google+ has video chat that has a group chat feature while Facebook (as of right now) only has a single chat feature. In my experience I could see this being potentially “harmful” for me because there have been many instances where I accidently clicked a person’s name in Facebook chat but did not really want to chat with them – so hopefully there is a buffer which tells you that you are starting a video chat, *fingers crossed*
Now that Google+ and Facebook both have video chat capabilities, I see Gmail video chat, AIM video chat and even Skype slowly starting to dwindle away. Although Facebook partnered with Skype to make this ability possible, it will be interesting to see what come of Skype.
