Now that 2015 has arrived, I’ve made some PR new year’s resolutions for myself. I have a feeling that I’ll have a better time sticking to these resolutions than my other ones (I still haven’t managed to hit the gym…)
I’ve included my three goals below:
1. Double Check EVERYTHING
In the fast-moving world of public relations, it can be easy to send off an email with a typo or a serious grammatical error – ESPECIALLY when you’re working from a tiny iPhone screen. In 2015 I will strive to double, triple, even quadruple check everything I send out to ensure that no client or media contact is confused by my iPhone’s autocorrect function.
2. Make A To-Do List (And Actually Stick To It!)
No two days are exactly the same when you’re a publicist. Sometimes even a perfectly planned schedule will get jumbled due to travel or an amazing media opportunity. However, my goal in 2015 is to get better at making realistic to-do lists. Because let’s face it- nothing is worse than looking at the clock and saying, “It’s 5 p.m….but I still have so much to do!”
3. Read All The News I Possibly Can
I am actually pretty old-school when it comes to news-I get the Los Angeles Times delivered to my front door every Sunday (You can see my post about my love for print media here). My goal for 2015 is to read more online news whenever I have a free moment. After all, you can’t pitch a reporter if you don’t have a clue what is going on outside your office building! And because I always have my smartphone on hand, it’s easy to browse news sites while standing in line at the grocery store or waiting for my check at a restaurant.
