For those who usually write daily blog posts, it is normal to occasionally experience the familiar “writer’s block.” Nothing happens as you stare at the blank page or you can’t get past the first line. This sometimes hits when you’re picking a title or choosing the topic to write about. When any of these situations arise you can reference one or all of the following solutions to “cure the constipation.”
- Go for a walk. Being outside and “offline”, in different environments helps to free the mind and generate ideas. I put the word in quotes “offline” because the reality is that many times while we are walking, we’re still thinking of ideas. But it is a fact that in the end we’re in a better state for creating than in the beginning.
- Google It. Many say that dogs are man’s best friend, but in my opinion, Google is. Enter one word of the topic we are thinking to write about on Google and you’ll find multiple results related to that word. If you had no ideas, google generates them for you. If you did not know how to start your article, google will also help you know the key words you should include.
- Write. Sounds strange as we’re talking about not having inspiration to write, but simply writing anything at all, even if it is not related, is a good idea. In a class during college, I remember that one of the assignments we had was to take a blank page and start writing whatever came to mind without stopping. After a while, we would read them aloud and edit our story.
- Rest. If you do not have a deadline to meet, the most simple and effective solution is to rest. Sometimes, getting some solid rest helps create more ideas than sitting in front of computer. Have a notebook close in case inspiration hits and you need to write it down!
