1. Replace “resolution” with “goal”
Resolution is such a strong word and implies that change will happen overnight. This is simply not realistic! A more positive approach is to focus on how you want to be better and create a positive goal for yourself.
2. Create milestones throughout the year to stay motivated
A year is a pretty long time. Look at your calendar and envision the progress you wish to achieve each month. By jotting down these milestones you will be better able to stay on track for your overall goal. You will also have a confidence boost in watching yourself get closer and closer!
3. Implement daily routines
Take the time to evaluate what you need to do each day in order to be successful. Perhaps spending 30 minutes a night reading over a specific subject area or checking certain news sources every morning will bring you closer to your goal. Whatever it is, implement these routines into your daily schedule and you will be that much closer.
4. Journal your progress every week
Reflection is important. Take the time each week to think about how you were strong and where you still need improvements. This is also a good time to plan for the coming week.
5. Don’t stress!
A year is a long time! If you make small changes and monitoring your progress regularly, there is no need to stress about reaching your goal. A goal should promote positivity and motivation. There is no room for negative energy.
