As publicists, we often attend a variety of trade shows with our clients to coordinate media appointments and assist at their respective booths. Trade Shows are a wonderful way to see what is going on within the industry and to interact with media, distributors, etc. Last month I attended my first trade show for Winter Fancy Food in San Francisco. Needless tosay, I enjoyed lots of sampling of all of the delicious goods and had a phenomenal opportunity to see our clients at work. Next month we are set to attend Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim for many of our food and beverage clients in the natural foods space. Now that I have one trade show under my belt, I wanted to share some of my key leanings for trade show must-haves!
This may seem like a given, but I cannot stress enough how important it is to pack your most comfortable shoes. You will be walking the aisles of the trade show for hours on end and the last thing you want to worry about is achy feet.
2. Business Cards
Bring your business cards, and A LOT of them. You will be surprised at how quickly you go through your stash of business cards when interacting with so many clients, media contacts and various people at trade shows.
3. Pen & Paper
You will want to have these handy, should you need to take notes at meetings or as you peruse the trade show aisles.
4. Water Bottle
You will need to stay hydrated for your long days at the trade show!
5. A Large Bag
Especially at food and beverage trade shows, there will be many samples and paperwork to hold on to for later.
Hope this packing list helps as you prep for your next (and maybe first!) trade show!
