Since its introduction in 2011, Snapchat has been stirring up the world of social media. In May of 2012, users sent 25 images per second, and by November of the same year, Snapchat use grew to 20 million photos shared per day. It’s no wonder brands were quick to get on board with this social media phenomenon. While the app’s huge user numbers attracted the attention of many companies, there are only so many ways you can really market on a platform that only keeps files for 24 hours at a time.
Enter the almighty Geofilter! Swipe left and right after snapping a selfie, and you’ll run into these fun filters that magically change to reflect where you are in the world. We hate to spoil the Snapchat magic, but those were placed there strategically by businesses like Konnect Agency. We recently created and hosted a few filters for our client High Brew Coffee, and here’s how we did it:
- Pick a day/time: National Coffee Day landed right around the time of Austin City Limits. Because of this, High Brew Coffee aimed to celebrate both occasions with a Snapchat Geofilter during the ACL weekends.
- Pick a location: Because we were celebrating National Coffee Day and Austin City Limits, we chose to host the filters in the music-loving ATX. Big events like this tend to block off areas within the borders of the event, so our task was to find a location that would hit both the ACL crowd and non-attendees in Austin.
For High Brew Coffee’s ACL filter, we targeted college students around the area that would most likely use the Snapchat platform and see the filter.
- Create a Filter Worth Swiping For: Sure, you want to get your brand out there, but stamping your logo on the bottom of a PNG is not going to cut it. If no one uses your filter, it’s just not worth the money. High Brew Coffee is known for their snappy sayings on social media, so we leveraged that when developing the filters.
- Launch It and Wait for the Results: Not much more you can do until you find out the results of your first filter! We were able to achieve a $1.27 cost per view, which is amazing!
And there you have it! Now you’re ready to get your own Snapchat Filter going for your next big event! Good luck and get snapping!
