Internships are a proven way to gain relevant knowledge, skills and experience while establishing important connections in the field.
The series Intern To Hired! continues with Rebecca Campbell, our amazing Account Executive.
What was your first impression of Konnect?
When I first came to Konnect I loved the pink and the high-energy environment! During my interview process for the internship I did a Trial Day of work at Konnect and loved that I was able to get a glimpse into what a day at the office would be like.
What was your first day as an intern like?
I was definitely nervous! I was an intern for both the Baby & Children and Food & Beverage PR departments and it was a bit overwhelming keeping track of all of the clients initially. However, everyone was so welcoming and willing to show me the ropes.
What was your most memorable experience as a Konnect intern?
As an intern I was able to work a rooftop workout media event hosted by our client KRAVE, featuring Jillian Michaels. This was such a valuable experience to assist with event set-up/ clean-up and to interact with media contacts. It was such a fun event and I was so excited to help out!
What was the biggest lesson you learned as an intern that you apply to your new position?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Of course, it is important to be self-sufficient and to learn by doing certain tasks. However, I have learned so many lessons and gained incredible insights by picking my co-workers’ brains over lunch or while grabbing a coffee. As an intern, I tried to take every task as a learning opportunity. Now as an Account Executive, I still have questions! While I have learned a lot, I also know that there are many opportunities to continue learning from my amazing colleagues at Konnect Agency.
What advice do you have for interns who want to make a lasting impression.
I think a lasting impression is made by bringing enthusiasm to your work, being eager to accept feedback gracefully and by thinking a step ahead! No matter if the task is big or small, you will “wow” your supervisors by staying organized, making good use of your time and by having a positive attitude.
What’s your favorite thing about Konnect?
Hands-down, the people. Konnect fosters a wonderful community and I feel so grateful and fortunate to have gained mentors and friends at Konnect. Additionally, I think the Intern Program was so beneficial to my transition into full-time employment at Konnect.
