This past Sunday marked the 31st annual Nautica Malibu Triathlon presented by Equinox at Zuma Beach, Malibu. As always, it was a great turn out with celebrities Zac Efron, James Marsden, Luke Hemsworth, Karla Souza, Jack Falahee and Beverley Mitchell participating alongside 5,000 other inspiring athletes.
The triathlon consisted of a half-mile ocean swim, 17-mile bike course and a 4-mile run with proceeds benefitting Children’s Hospital Los Angeles‘ Pediatric Cancer Research Program, which is dedicated to preventing and curing childhood cancer. This year, a whopping $1.142MM was raised to support the CHLA.
Konnect Agency has overseen the public relations for the Nautica Malibu Triathlon for the past seven years. I could feel the excitement around the office as the day of the event drew near with colleague’s discussing stories from previous years. The team worked extremely hard to secure quality local and national press, both pre-and post-race. Now, don’t be mistaken this is no easy task, especially when the event is happening the same day as the Emmy Awards. It involves a lot of creativity, emails, team work and persistence. It’s events like these that really highlight how important it is to communicate and work as a team. Here, at Konnect we are so lucky that everyone is supportive and always happy to help, or in this case, wake up at 2:00 AM for a 3:00 AM call time.
I would also like to give a shout out to my colleague, who competed in her first Triathlon and absolutely smashed it. It takes great patience and determination to train for a triathlon, let alone finish it. Just maybe, next year, you may see more us participating in the event… stay tuned!
