Konnect Daily

The kids are going back to school, which basically means its already Halloween and Christmas. And since I’m a big proponent of getting started on resolutions early (see this post), it got me thinking that there is a lot of inspiration we as professionals can take from the back-to-school season as well.

When I was a kid, going back to school was one of the major highlights of my entire year. New teachers, new school supplies, new friends, new possibilities! Going back to school truly signifies a fresh start. Another chance to reach for the stars, learn something new, and become the best version of yourself.

Sure, none of us are kids anymore. But that shouldn’t stop any of us from enjoying all the same emotional highs that come with the back-to-school season. Keep reading for how I’m using this time to get inspired professionally for the final push of 2019.

Learn Something New: Going back to school is no doubt one of the top social events in any child’s life. But the fact of the matter is that school exists for students to continue their learning adventure. As professionals, we too should always be on the lookout for new ways to expand our knowledge and continue down the path of learning. As Konnect publicists, the sky is the limit for us when it comes to increasing our knowledge of the industries we serve, the newest tactics and regulations for social media marketing, and beyond. Just as my daughter will be expected to read every night during the school year, I am also vowing to read every night with her to learn something new that will benefit my career and clients.

Make New Friends: Making new friends is a hard one for a lot of adults. Working at a public relations agency means that making new friends is critical to individual success and the success of the agency. I’ll admit that it has been quite some time since I put myself out there to take a new reporter out for coffee or meet new people in my industry. What we can all learn from kids who are making new friends in the new school year is that the connections we make in real life end up being more meaningful, genuine and impactful in our lives than anything made over a cold email exchange. On that note, I’m planning to take the leap and reach out to someone new just as soon as I finish this post.

Refresh Your Supplies: I’m not going to lie, one of my very favorite things about going back to school when I was a kid was getting all new school supplies. As an adult, that never changed. Sometimes, all it takes for me is a new notebook or new set of pens to inspire better note-taking, better planning and organization and a renewed sense of order to my workspace. (check out this post if you want to be EXTRA like me) If you too love a good school supply, why not stock up on some new goodies now? Back-to-school is the very best time to find the most stylish, functional products of the year.

Aim For The Honor Roll: You’ve heard the saying, “If you’re not busy living, you’re dying.” The same goes for your career. If you’re not pushing the boundaries of your comfort zone and putting in the extra time, effort, and dedication needed to reach new heights, then you’re not really living and thriving professionally. The back-to-school season is always a good time to reinvigorate your strong work ethic and finish out the calendar year making your company’s Honor Roll.

Happy new school year, everyone! If you need me, I’ll be wandering the school supply aisles at Target.
