The holidays are fast approaching, and I don’t know about you but they’re my absolute favorite time of the year. Here at Konnect we take the holidays extremely seriously – kicking it off with Halloween! Each year on Halloween our Los Angeles headquarters splits into small teams, and our remote offices work together to put together fun team costumes to showcase on Halloween. As publicists, we know Halloween really starts mid-summer when the long-lead publications are working on their October books, so that’s basically about the time we start plotting our Halloween costumes.
Creating a team costume with colleagues you don’t typically work with on a day-to-day basis is an excellent team-building exercise that allows us to show off our creative sides and work together to make some magic. Deciding on a costume as a team is similar to creating and executing different strategies for your clients. You have to first brainstorm what your end goal is and then narrow down your choices to what is most likely to wow your colleagues and win the competition. Then you have to discuss how you will achieve that goal (costume) and begin to put it together piece-by-piece. Finally, at the end of the day, you get to showcase your end goal to the entire company and see your hard work pay off.
Every year our incredible executive team creates a plan for judging our team costumes. This year, we were judged on the following criteria:
- Creativity – Novel concept
- Execution – Best follow through on concept
- Teamwork – Best overall group; thoughtfulness and each team member’s contribution
- Character – Each team member’s embrace of their character through behavior as that character
This year our teams went all out! Bigger and better than we’ve ever seen before. We had the aliens from Toy Story, Beetlejuice, Nightmare Before Christmas (x2), The Costco Sample Ladies, The Golden Girls, Richard Simmons & friends, and Willy Wonka with the golden ticket winners! Check out the Konnect Instagram to see how incredibly creative our teams are!
Now that we are officially done with Halloween, Konnect is looking forward to our upcoming holiday events. Each November we always plan a volunteer day for our offices to give back to their local communities. It’s one of my favorite Konnect holiday traditions as we get to take a step outside of work to focus on helping others. In addition to volunteering, we host an annual Friendsgiving in each office. Everybody cooks and brings in different Thanksgiving dishes for the team to enjoy, and we spend some extra time with our beloved work family. Last, but certainly not least, is our annual holiday party in December. All our remote offices fly out to our Los Angeles headquarters to spend a week training and working together to become the best publicists we can be while celebrating another incredible year.
Konnect is truly one big happy family, and I am so thrilled to be part of the team. The holidays can be a crazy, stressful time for a publicist but Konnect always finds a way to make the time fly by and bring joy into a stressful season.
I hope everybody had a wonderful Halloween!
