We are so proud to announce that the Los Angeles Business Journal has ranked Konnect Agency, a brand strategy agency, as the number one Best Place to Work in 2020 within the small business category. Humble brag alert: Konnect Agency is routinely included on Best Places to work lists and we are incredibly proud of this. We work hard to maintain our standings, which are entirely determined by anonymous feedback from our Konnect team. But when the acknowledgment comes from your hometown, it’s means a little something extra special.
As a Los Angeles-based PR, brand strategy and digital marketing agency, this is our seventh year making the LABJ Best Places to Work list, our third time cracking the top three, and our first time earning the number one slot. Konnect Agency is a women owned and operated agency with a mission to make the conversation between employer and employee more transparent. We put our community (aka team members) first and value teamwork and collaboration. In the last few years we have made it our goal to redefine what the employee experience can be – looking to our employees as valued partners and empowering them to have a voice within the Konnect community – and to see those efforts pay off is incredibly rewarding. While we offer competitive pay, great benefits, and special perks; what means the most to us – and what we truly believe makes Konnect Agency the best place to work – is the people we have chosen to work beside.
When it comes to perks and benefits, we focus on meaningful contributions that enhance the lives around us, personalized touches some may not think to reward themselves with. We have taken employees on all-inclusive paid trips to Europe, on cruises, winery tours, and reward our longstanding employees of five years or more with a special token of appreciation. We’ve offered access to an in-office therapist, a Peloton bike and treadmill desks. We’ve long embraced flex hours and also instituted a remote desktop system years ago to accommodate one work-from-home day a week for our team members – something we never imaged would become one of the most important aspects of our company.
Undoubtedly, the award feels different this year – a year which has redefined everything, including what it means to be an employer and what it means to go to work. It has been a year of remote desktop work, Zoom meetings, virtual happy hours, and children interrupting calls with requests for new crayons. It has been a year that has challenged all of us to rethink our impact on our communities, our environment, and each other. With each breaking news update, we are starting to see the world and our role a little differently. What does “workplace culture” even mean in this new remote working environment? How do we show up for each other, for our clients, for our community, when we can’t physically show up?
For Konnect, it started with ensuring the mental wellness of our teams. With our team members already having had the option to work from home, our remote workspace set-up was already well in place ensuring a seamless transition to working remotely. Our HR department worked with every team member to ensure they had what was needed for a successful at-home work space – two computer screens, a mouse, better internet, new laptop, etc. Sometimes something as small as a mouse can ease the stress and tension of being stuck in your home for days on end. Virtual happy hour, surprise lunch deliveries, holiday celebrations and early release summer Fridays, something we do every year, meant a little more to us this year, even though we really couldn’t go anywhere. Recently we extended summer Fridays to the rest of year, something our team was incredibly grateful for. Our CEO set up personal calls with each and every team member just to check in and extend a friendly “hello.” We realized how important those tokens of normalcy were, and what was so important to us while being in the office has become even more important to us out of it.
So here we are, celebrating the wonderful news that once again our employees are recognizing the incredible achievements we have made together as a team. That is one simple truth that we knew even before COVID-19 was making the news: you cannot become a Best Place to Work just with lifestyle perks and a cool office space. You have to build it together – a partnership with the team you chose to work with – an agreement to be the best you can for each other, to reach goals and exceed expectations and make something great along the way. And that is something Konnect has been doing for a long time.
