It’s an unbelievably historic matchup: neither the Cubs nor the Indians have won the World Series in AGES, so the mood is elevated, people are engaged and EVERYONE is looking for something to talk about on social media other than the election.
With such a ripe opportunity for marketing and PR, what companies are cashing in and making some big league plays to take advantage? Here are the top three that caught my eye:
- Everyone wishes they had tickets to the Series, but they are seriously difficult to come by. This Chicagoland QSR, Baby’s Cheesesteak, is offering two free sandwiches “every day for the rest of your life” to anyone willing to hand over two lower-level tickets at Wrigley Field. Hard to say which opportunity would be more difficult to part with, but if you’re one of those “bandwagon” Cubs fans, this could be the PERFECT opportunity. It’s gained the company some local buzz and even a piece on FOX News!
- Taco Bell is running a “steal a base, steal a taco” campaign that has gotten them tons of press and without a doubt, lots of customers. Hungry baseball fans who have been drinking late into the evening? Seems like the perfect fit!
- This headline takes the cake: “Freshii to Give Away a Franchise if the Cubs Win World Series.” Genius! I’m sure we all absolutely cannot WAIT to see how this one plays out if the Cubs win. But in the meantime, they are enjoying a ton of press for their creativity.
