So this week I experienced every publicist’s worst nightmare: flu season.
Unfortunately, I came down with a weird, terrible case of laryngitis/bronchitis/head cold hybrid and it could not have come at a worse time: trying to launch two new clients, maintain the ones you’ve got, plus client events…talk about a week. So in between all of the madness, I’m straining and wheezing to just get one sentence out; I even clapped excessively to get someone’s attention once. Yea…not fun.
In all honesty, there’s never really a “good” time to get sick in this industry. We’re constantly on the cusp of the next season (Valentine’s Day guides, Mother’s Day frenzy, etc. etc.) and you’ve always got to be ready for a big hit to come in –any of the lovelies from Martha Stewart or ‘O’, I’d LOVE a call 0:-) — so as you can see, NOT being able to communicate is like runner with no feet, a surgeon with no tools.
My solution? Chicken noodle soup, a re-up sesh on Eastbound and Down, OD-ing on medicine and napping with one eye open on the blackberry.
Was it ideal? No. Effective? Surprisingly yes.
I’m almost back to my old self now and I can tell you, it REALLY sucks to be without my mouthpiece. I missed her 🙂
