With the rapid progression of technology comes new innovative means of branding- gone are the days of simply having a website, companies now need to be ahead of the game (or at least on par with the most advanced generation of techies), utilizing the latest and greatest tools to be at the forefront of their respective industries. So what’s currently being buzzed about? Instagram, a photo-sharing application for mobile devices that is stylish, intuitive, and allows users to snap a photo and simultaneously share it with multiple social networks (including the app’s own built-in network). Other users can “Like” and comment on photos to boost their popularity, as well as find more users to follow by searching or browsing keywords and what’s popular- think of it as a revolutionary cross between social media forums Facebook and Twitter.
Instagram can be a great resource for brands, as it offers a quick and easy way to both generate and share visual content with existing fans and extract new ones. Many companies have already hopped on the bandwagon, incorporating Instagram with their own promotional offers and incentives. Brisk Iced Tea invited fans to tag their photos via Instagram for a chance to be featured on a can (more than 1,500 photos were tagged), while Red Bull posts creative “Daily Awesome” images and frequently comments/”Likes” other users photos that illustrate people’s ideas of “getting wings.” Instagram allows brands to use the service less formally as well, where they can simply engage with fans on a daily basis but create a more visual, image-based interaction.
Instagram first conveyed its interest in welcoming brands on the service in January of this year, and accumulated over 100,000 registrations in its first week and nearly 1 million by the tenth. At present, the platform has about 2 million and counting. Another strategy for Konnect PR to consider in keeping our clients at the top!
