After a month interning at this pretty-in-pink office, my transition from a small college in Massachusetts to this Los Angeles public relations firm has been a rewarding experience. I’m a junior at Stonehill College majoring in Communications with a concentration in the Media. An East Coast girl to my core- I frequent down the Cape rather than Malibu, the White Mountains up in New Hampshire rather than the ranges in Santa Monica, and still think the T’s green line during a Sox game is worse than the 405 during rush hour- I’m lucky to be given the opportunity to take a semester here in L.A for full school credit. Konnect PR is a welcoming environment where I found it easy to acclimate.
Part of what makes the adjustment from the classroom to the workplace so easy is that the employees keep me busy at all times. There was no syllabus week here, and I was given multiple assignments on my first day! I am asked to help with media lists, press kits, and to follow social media. More rewarding is the support and encouragement I am given by everybody when I have a question, make a mistake, or find a project more difficult than anticipated. My experience at this PR firm is more effective in teaching me the ins and outs of public relations than any class at a college or university.
Interning here has another plus side, as well: it helps with my tourism! The location is close to popular attractions, which I have found helpful when navigating the city with my friends. It’s close to the fashion district, which I really appreciate as I am a proud girly-girl (I did opt to work at an office where the walls and logo are pink, didn’t I?). It is also on the same street that the Emmy’s were hosted, which was convenient for me and my friend to go to the red carpet. Down the road from The Staples Center, I also know a handful of restaurants which will satisfy my belly when I get out of work at dinner time and go to the Lakers’ game I just bought tickets to.
I’m having a blast both in L.A and at this firm, and can say I am wicked happy I came!
To everybody here at Konnect PR, I owe a million thank yous!
