In this new series, we’re spotlighting our employees – first up, Shelley Buyco, Konnect’s very own social media guru.
Describe some of your responsibilities at Konnect?
I handle social media strategy and digital marketing at Konnect Agency. This includes posting on the major platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.), creating and executing digital ad buys on Facebook and Instagram, and also developing and implementing influencer programs. There’s a lot under my umbrella, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. It lets me dip into a ton of different things that I would’ve never thought I’d be working on.
Why do you like social media?
Social Media directly mirrors our society. When we change, social media changes. If you would’ve asked me what I was doing in the social world a year ago, it would’ve been completely different from what I do now. Because of this, I’m always learning and always getting to test out new strategies and new platforms. I’m never bored!
How can social media marketing help a business?
Brand awareness! We tell this to our clients on an everyday basis. It’s the rule of 7’s. It takes someone about 7 times seeing or engaging with a brand’s marketing message before acting on it. Because of this, what better way than to utilize some of the most engageable platforms online to get people seeing your product? Social media gets a brand’s product directly in front of consumers and puts a personable voice behind it.
What are some current trends in the digital media space?
LIVE is huge right now. From Facebook LIVE to streaming platforms like Twitch to Snapchat Stories, everyone wants to witness on-the-spot moments. We’re seeing an uptick in LIVE videos and photos, and even Facebook has stated that they optimize LIVE streams on their algorithm. It’s no longer enough to feature photos on your feed, LIVE videos give that extra personal touch that consumers and users love.
