It was raining cats and dogs this week in Las Vegas when the SuperZoo pet retailer show descended upon the town July 25th-27th. As the PR agency that represents Solid Gold Pet, we packed our bags for what was sure to be a highly informative look inside the trends behind the extensive pet product industry.
In a shiny sea of new pet products, grooming competitions and celebrity dog sightings, one thing was clear: the pet industry is booming and there’s no sign of that slowing down. More millennials are opting for pooches over parenthood, and this trend means that we’re spending more money on our furry friends. Dogs and cats give us the unconditional love we desire without the selflessness that is required when we have children. So we humanize our pets; we make them members of our families; we clothe them, seek out the best groomers in town and feed them the highest quality superfood diets (see: Solid Gold’s dog and cat food lines that have been doing this since the ‘70s!). All of this gets pricey, but it’s still less expensive than having a child.
And the pet industry is here to cater to all of those needs. Through new innovations, reformulations and a mix of PR and traditional and digital marketing, pet supply companies are giving us what we need to keep our pets happy, healthy and living their best lives.
