Do you work hard AF? If you work in the public relations industry, you surely do! From securing press to planning events to day-to-day client relations, this industry is certainly fast-paced and requires a keen sense of urgency. That said, the stress of a constantly changing industry with tons of moving pieces can certainly take a toll on your mental and physical health if you neglect self care.
Here at the Konnect Agency, our team deeply values holistic wellness from the inside out, and that means prioritizing your needs! With that in mind, here are some self care tips to help you put YOU first.
- Take an exercise class
So often we view exercise as a negative, positioning it as a necessary evil or simply a vehicle for weight loss. Beyond its superficial benefits though, exercise can stimulate the release of endorphins or the hormones in our brain that give us that euphoric “runner’s high.” If running isn’t your thing, try your hand at something fun like Zumba or more meditative like Yoga. Getting your body moving is a simple way to alleviate stress and take your mind off of work matters.
- Don’t knock therapy
Therapy is often stigmatized as something that only benefits people suffering from mental illness, but there are countless benefits of therapy and even the most “normal” of people often find a therapy session to be cathartic. Therapy gives you the opportunity to speak to an impartial party about literally anything that’s on your mind. If you often feel that you hold in your emotions for fear that they will be too burdensome or even boring to share with loved ones, therapy provides you with a safe space to share freely.
- Find something you love and do it often
As a self-proclaimed makeup junkie, I find true joy in opening a new product and getting to experiment with it. Conversely, playing with makeup would likely be my sister’s idea of a nightmare. She prefers to get lost in a book, or to cook a delicious meal. Both hobbies serve the same purpose. Identify the thing that you love and find a way to incorporate it into each day. Some additional ideas include taking up sewing and making the clothing of your dreams, getting back into your favorite sport, spending time with your family… the possibilities are endless.
We hope the above tips were helpful, and wish you the best of luck on your self care journey.
