The musical roots of Chicago date back to the beginning of the 20th century, which was dominated by artists Muddy Waters, Thomas A. Dorsey, Benny Goodman, and the entertainer who epitomized jazz, Louis Armstrong. It is also the home to The Second City Theater, sketch comedy improvisation, which opened in 1959. It has since become one of the most influential and prolific comedy theatres in the world.
